Parking and Using Sacramento Car Insurnace For Driving Protection

Written by Michele Wilmonen. Posted in Research Last Updated: 07/13/2013

Sacramento car insurance coverage will protect you from penalties while driving in the capital, but only common sense will protect you when parking there.

Sacramento Car Insurance

You didn’t need Sacramento car insurance or have to worry about parking when the railroad was the main mode of transportation in Sacramento.

Sacramento is a great place to visit because of the historical sites and significance that this capital city has for the western part of the United States. But when you are visiting, be attentive to the changing direction of the streets, the parking rules that change according to time of day, and the car insurance requirements.

Sacramento Parking

Parking in Sacramento is an interesting experience in itself, especially downtown. You have to pay close attention to the parking signs along the street because parking rules do change during the day.

Sacramento is also the only city I have ever been to that issues you a parking sticker to attach to the window of your vehicle when you pay for the time in your parking spot. I am used to just getting a stub to throw on my dashboard or needing nothing at all because a computer has logged my time in my spot.

When you do get your sticker from the parking machine, pay very close attention to the directions of where and how to put the sticker on your vehicle. The sticker has to be in a specific location for the parking police to easily see it, or they will issue you a parking ticket like you didn’t pay for parking at all.

I messed mine up because the directions didn’t make sense to me, but I luckily didn’t get a ticket. Maybe they had mercy on me because I had out-of-state plates and they just chalked it up to me being a redneck from Idaho. Good thing they didn’t know that I am actually a California native, then.

In addition to having to pay attention to parking in Sacramento, you also need to pay attention to Sacramento car insurance coverage requirements. Because the State of California actually sets the car insurance requirements for the whole state, if you pay attention to the Sacramento car insurance requirements you will be good for all the cities in the state.

The minimum coverage that you can have for car insurance and still be driving legally is:

  • $15,000 in liability coverage for the medical expenses for any person not in your vehicle that you injure with your car.
  • $30,000 in liability coverage for all medical expenses total for multiple people that you may injure with your vehicle that are not in your car.
  • $5,000 in coverage to pay for damages to another person’s property that you cause with your vehicle.

Driving without these Sacramento car insurance coverages can leave you with a suspended vehicle registration and even an impounded vehicle.
