Do You Want Chesapeake Car Insurance or Not?

Written by Michele Wilmonen. Posted in Research Last Updated: 05/11/2014

Chesapeake car insurance is an oddity compared to other cities around the nation.

chesapeak car insurance

Are you going to choose the protection Chesapeake car insurance?

Actually, since the State of Virginia is who creates the insurance laws for every city in the state, it is actually the entire state and not just Chesapeake that stands out as different. Almost every other state in the nation requires that their drivers purchase some form of car insurance if they want to be able to drive.

It is usually a car insurance policy that is required by other states, but it can also be putting up enough cash in a special account that shows that they have enough money to cover any damages or injuries that they cause while driving. Virginia however, tells its drivers that they have the option of driving with or without car insurance.

Driving Without Chesapeake Car Insurance

If you want to drive without Chesapeake car insurance and hope for the best, you have to pay a $500 Uninsured Motor Vehicle fee to the DMV. This fee is only for the privilege of driving without insurance coverage, and in no way provides you with any coverage if you were to get in an accident.

If you cause a car accident, you are on your own as far as paying for the damages that you are responsible for.

Driving With Chesapeake Car Insurance

If you decide that you prefer the protection that Chesapeake car insurance provides, you have to carry at least:

  • $25,000 in coverage for bodily injury liability coverage for a single person
  • $50,000 in coverage for bodily injury liability coverage for two or more people
  • $20,000 in coverage for property damage liability coverage

Chesapeake Car Insurance Penalties

If you don’t pay the $500 Uninsured Motor Vehicle fee to the DMV and you also don’t purchase the minimum required 25/50/25 car insurance coverage, you are breaking the law. If you get caught in this situation you will end up having your driver’s license and vehicle registration suspended.

You will also have to pay a $500 statutory fee and a reinstatement fee to get your driver’s license and vehicle registration back once you are in compliance with state law.

Finally, you will be required to have a SR-22 filed with the DMV for 3 years and you can thank your new higher car insurance rates for the next three years to this mandatory SR-22.

If it were me, I would make sure I was in compliance with Chesapeake car insurance laws rather than have to go through all of that.

Happy Mother’s Day

Written by Michele Wilmonen. Posted in Research Last Updated: 05/11/2014

Car insurance and mom are more like each other than you think.

happy mothers day

Happy Mother’s Day!

No, this is not an article telling you to purchase mom car insurance for Mother’s Day. If you are at a loss as to what to get her today, there are three things that are always a safe fallback – flowers, jewelry, and taking her out to lunch.

If your mom doesn’t like any of those, well, good luck then. You shouldn’t have put more thought into this earlier than the day of the holiday.

For us however, we are going to talk about how your mom is like a car insurance policy.

Mandatory Car Insurance

In most states, there are a certain set of car insurance coverages that you have to purchase in order to be able to drive. For the most part, these required car insurance coverages are basically the same from state to state. The protection they provide you is the most basic form and is something that no good driver is without.

With moms it is the same; in general they all have the same anatomy and instincts that come with motherhood. There is very little difference from mom to mom when it comes to the human basics in this area. And every good mom is there to protect their child from harm.

Optional Car Insurance

With every car insurance policy available, the basic mandatory car insurance is just the base of the policy. There are many different options that you can add to your policy to make it uniquely yours.

Mom is the same, once you move past the fact that each mom has the same maternal base, you know that each mom is different. Each mom has different likes, desires, and beliefs; and from your childhood you know that each mom treats and raises their children differently. Her differences make your mom uniquely yours.

Car Insurance Penalties

When you didn’t follow mom’s rules, for most of us, an unpleasant time of punishment was the end result. You also knew that if you didn’t follow the rules in other places that mom wouldn’t come to your rescue when your dad, the school, or another authority figure punished you.

The same goes for insurance.  If you break your state’s law that requires that you have certain insurance coverages, you will face penalties from law enforcement. Also, if you break certain rules that the car insurance company has, they won’t protect you and pay for your car accident.

Even with all these similarities, moms are better at two important things than your car insurance policy is – they are better at forgiving and loving you.

Irvine Car Insurance Laws and Other Important Rules

Written by Michele Wilmonen. Posted in Research Last Updated: 05/09/2014

Today we talk about 2 other important driving rules, in addition to Irvine car insurance laws.

irvine car insurance

Better have proof of your Irvine car insurance ready also.

The requirement that you have to have Irvine car insurance to drive should be as common knowledge as the fact that you have to put gas in the car to make it go.  California, who made Irvine car insurance a requirement, has been enforcing mandatory car insurance coverage in the state for a very long time now.

If you don’t know that car insurance is required, you are either a very new driver or one that has had their head in the sand. But just to recap, here are the minimum car insurance coverages that you are required to have if you want to drive in the state:

  • $5,000 property damage liability coverage
  • $15,000 bodily injury liability coverage for one person
  • $30,000 bodily injury liability coverage for multiple injuries

In addition to these mandatory car insurance requirements, here are the details of two other laws in Irvine that drivers need to be careful to follow.

Irvine Driver’s License

Another California law, but enforced by the City of Irvine, is graduated driver’s licenses. Here’s the down low for you new drivers or parents of soon-to-be drivers.

First, it is no longer a two-step process, where you used to get your permit to learn to drive and then your driver’s license with no restrictions. Now it is a three-step process:

  1. Permit – Given no younger than age 15.5, and while the new driver has it they are expected to obtain 50 hours of supervised driving practice to move to the next level.
  2. Provisional License – This is the new step that was added between the permit and regular license. To get this license, drivers between 16 and 18 have to pass a behind-the-wheel driving test after they obtain the 50 hours of driving practice. Drivers with a provisional license may only drive between the hours of 5 a.m. and 11 a.m. and are only allowed to drive alone, with parents, or a licensed driver over the age of 25.
  3. Full-privilege License – An unrestricted license that is granted after the requirements for the first two steps are completed and there are no legal restrictions on the driver’s driving record.

Irvine DUIs

You should already know by now that you shouldn’t drink and drive. If you do get a DUI, in addition to the regular penalties and fines you will face, you also need to know the following:

  • You have to reimburse the City of Irvine the cost of the emergency responders that had to be dispatched because you were driving drunk.
  • You have 30 days to pay for the emergency response bill. If you do not pay within the 30 days you will be charged late fees and fines. If you still have not paid after 90 days, your account is sent to a collection agency.
  • Your Irvine car insurance company is not allowed to pay the City of Irvine this expense on your behalf.

Baton Rouge Car Insurance Laws

Written by Michele Wilmonen. Posted in Research Last Updated: 05/03/2014

Baton Rouge car insurance laws are just one of many drivers in the city have to follow.

Baton Rouge car insurance

Baton Rouge car insurance laws are just a small part of the laws that keep us safe on the road.

Any driver that wants to drive in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, better have a current Baton Rouge car insurance policy. You will be asked for it when you register your car, if you get in a car accident, and of you get pulled over for violating a traffic law.

The only way to get around the Baton Rouge car insurance law is to walk.

One Way to Get a Traffic Ticket

As a reminder from the City of Baton Rouge, here are the proper hand signals to use when your vehicle’s signals don’t work. If you will notice, the one hand signal that most people use to express their anger with another driver is not on this list; therefore it is not sanctioned by the city as a proper signal. You may also find yourself the proud owner of a traffic ticket if you choose to use this unapproved hand signal and then you will have to show proof of your Baton Rouge car insurance.

Sec. 11:105. Method of giving hand and arm signals. (City)

All signals herein required given by hand and arm shall be given from the left side of the vehicle in the following manner and such signals shall indicate as follows:

(1)Left turn: Hand and arm extended horizontally.

(2)Right turn: Hand and arm extended upward.

(3)Stop or decrease speed: Hand and arm extended downward. (City Code 1951, Title 11, § 105)

Don’t Want Car Insurance

If you choose to bypass the whole car insurance things and not drive, here are some pedestrian rules to remember:

Sec. 11:95. Pedestrians on roadways. (City)

(a)Where sidewalks are provided it shall be unlawful for any pedestrian to walk along and upon an adjacent roadway.

(b)Where sidewalks are not provided any pedestrian walking along and upon a highway shall, when practicable, walk only on the left side of the roadway or its shoulder facing traffic which may approach from the opposite direction.  (City Code 1951, Title 11, § 95)

Sec. 11:94. Pedestrians to use right half of crosswalks. (City)

Pedestrians shall move, whenever practicable, upon the right half of crosswalks. (City Code 1951, Title 11, § 94)

Two, Important Baton Rouge Laws

Sec. 11:351. Driver’s license required. (Parish)

It shall be unlawful and a violation of this chapter for any person to operate or drive a motor vehicle within the limits of the parish without having a driver’s license as required by the laws of the state.

The requirement to have Baton Rouge car insurance does not have a city ordinance code, because it is actually a state law. And this law states that if you want to drive that you have to carry at least bodily injury liability and property damage insurance coverage. Not only do you have to have those specific coverages on your Baton Rouge car insurance policy, but you also have to have them at limits of no less than 15/30/25.

Reno car insurance isn’t your only avenue to protect yourself when you are traveling through Reno. Defensive driving and awareness of the dangerous driving areas of town can also help you stay out of an accident.

From the Reno police department, the below chart is all the car accidents that happened between January and November of their respective years. These statistics are just for the City of Reno and are not county or state statistics.

 Dangerous Reno Intersections

The Reno Police Department identified the following 10 intersections in the city that have the most accidents and have stepped up law enforcement efforts at these locations in the hopes to make them safer. When approaching these intersections, don’t automatically assume that others will always yield the right-of-way to you.

And for those that have the “world revolves around my car” attitude, expect an increased likelihood of a ticket if you choose to drive like you are the only one on the road.

  1. Clearacre Lane @ McCarran Blvd N
  2. McCarran Blvd N @ Mae Anne Ave
  3. Virginia St. N @ 8th St.
  4. 7th St. @ McCarran Blvd N

  8. Moana Lane @ Kietzke Lane
  9. Plumb Lane @ Harvard Way

Safety after the Accident

Some car accidents just can’t be avoided. Sometimes the weather makes it impossible to control your own vehicle and other times another driver’s negligence draws you into a car accident.

This is why it is so very important to have car insurance. You just never know when or why an accident will happen, and you especially never know how bad the accident will end up being.

Car insurance is there to protect you from the financial fallout that can happen after one of these accidents.  It is there to pay for medical bills, damage to property, time missed from work, and lawsuits; all of which would have to be paid for out of your own pocket if you didn’t have insurance.

Also in the State of Nevada, Reno car insurance is a requirement that has to be satisfied if you wish to drive.  The minimum amount of Reno car insurance that you are allowed to get away with is $15,000/$30,000 in bodily injury liability coverage and $10,000 in property damage liability coverage. However, this minimum amount of coverage may not be enough to fully protect you as it is only coverage to pay for damages you cause to another person.

To make sure that your property and passengers are protected, talk to you Reno car insurance agent about additional coverage beyond the state minimums.
