Albuquerque Driving Tips to Keep You Out of Traffic Court

Written by Michele Wilmonen. Posted in Research Last Updated: 06/29/2013

Keeping out of traffic court in Albuquerque is easier than you may think.

albuquerque car insurance

You don’t need Albuquerque car insurance in on of these during the balloon festival.

Driving around without Albuquerque car insurance is just one of the many infractions that can land you a citation and a day in court. To help our fellow drivers out there in Albuquerque, here are some tips to follow to prevent you from having to have that day in court.

The Most Common Albuquerque Traffic Citations

To keep things simple, the Albuquerque police department provides their website visitors with a table of fines and court costs they will face for common traffic citations. For you as a driver, this is a great list to be aware of so that you know what the police in Albuquerque are mostly on the lookout for:

  • Speeding
  • Running Stop Signs
  • Running Red Lights
  • Failing to Yield
  • Not using our turn signal
  • Tailgating
  • Child car seats not being used properly
  • Not using your seat belt
  • Broken windshield
  • Broken or no headlights
  • Broken or no tail lights

Kind of odd, but a good sign, that no having car insurance is not on this list of common traffic citations.

Albuquerque Car Insurance Requirements

Albuquerque car insurance requirements include 3 different liability coverages. First, you need to have bodily injury coverage to pay for any medical related expenses that another person may have from an injury you caused them with your vehicle. Bodily injury liability coverage comes with two different minimum limits; the first being $25,000 for one person and the second is $50,000 for all injuries if there are more than one injured.

The other liability coverage that you will have to have is to pay for the damage to any property you damage with your vehicle. This property damage liability coverage has to be at least $10,000 to be considered valid Albuquerque insurance coverage.

These Albuquerque car insurance coverages are determined by the State of New Mexico and are the same throughout the state, but not having them will still get you an Albuquerque traffic citation.

Getting Your Albuquerque Citations Dismissed

If you can’t afford your traffic citation or you just didn’t have proof of the information you needed that caused your citation (no proof of insurance, driver’s license, etc.) there are certain Albuquerque traffic citations that can be dismissed. For example, if you get cited for not having license plates or your vehicle registration on hand you can bring in your current registration before 4pm on the day before your traffic arraignment date your citation may be dismissed.

Other citations that can be dismissed include:

  • Suspended driver’s license (bring in your valid New Mexico driver’s license)
  • Failure to change your name or address on driver’s license (bring verification that you driver’s license has your current information)
  • No driver’s license (Bring in your valid New Mexico driver’s license)
  • Defective Equipment (bring “Proof you have replaced/repaired the light(s). If you have made this repair yourself, a receipt listing the specific item(s) purchased. An invoice, from an automotive business verifying windshield repair or verifying required repairs.” (Albuquerque Police Department) )
  • No Albuquerque Car Insurance (bring verification you had insurance coverage in place when you got the citation)

Ready to Take a Gamble with Las Vegas Car Insurance

Written by Michele Wilmonen. Posted in Research Last Updated: 06/27/2013

So do you think you will save more money by driving with or without Las Vegas car insurance?

las vegas car insurance

Welcome to Las Vegas!

Driving around without car insurance is no different than taking your money to the casino and placing a bet. At the casino, the gamble is if you are going to lose your money or come out with more than you walked in with.

With car insurance though, the gamble is if you going to be able to keep your money in your pocket by not paying for car insurance or are you going to lose more than what you have by getting into an accident without the insurance coverage.

Las Vegas Intersections That Decrease Your Odds

Per a report from the Las Vegas PD, there are 5 intersections that drivers need to be very cautious at. This would be especially true if you have placed your bet and are driving without car insurance. These intersections have been listed as the “Top Injury Collision Intersections” in the city for the time period of 12/26/12 through 6/18/12.

#1- Rainbow and Charleston (14 injury accidents)

#2 – Sahara and Decatur (12 injury accidents)

#3 – Flamingo and Arville (11 injury accidents)

#4 – Boulder Hwy and Lamb (10 injury accidents)

#5 Flamingo and Eastern (10 injury accidents)

Las Vegas Car Insurance Ante

Not only do you want to have Las Vegas car insurance to make sure you are protected when you are driving through one of the above dangerous intersections, but it is also mandatory if you want to drive at all. Las Vegas car insurance requirements are set forth by the State of Nevada and are the same across the state. So the car insurance you are required to have in Vegas will be the same as what you are required to have in Reno or Carson City.

The least amount of Las Vegas car insurance that is allowed to be able to drive is listed as 15/30/10. Broken down these numbers mean the following for you:

15 = $15,000 of bodily injury liability coverage for anyone not in your vehicle injured by you while you are driving.

30 = $30,000 also for bodily injury liability coverage, but this is the total that the insurance company will pay out for injuries from a single accident if there are two or more people injured.

10 = $10,000 of property damage liability coverage to pay for any damage you cause to another person’s vehicle.

The Decreased Odds on Las Vegas Car Insurance

Yes, you could save money by not carrying Las Vegas car insurance; there is no question about that. But, if you get into a car accident and you don’t have Las Vegas car insurance you will have to pay for all the damage that you cause right out of your pocket. And with how expensive car repairs and medical bills are today, it’s a promise that you will pay out more than you saved by not having the car insurance in place.

Not only do you have to not get into a car accident for this gamble to pay off, you also have to make sure you don’t get pulled over or caught by Nevada’s electronic insurance verification system. If you get caught you are looking at license suspensions, fines, reinstatement fees, and higher insurance rates when you do get insurance.

Now, is it really worth the gamble to drive around without Las Vegas car insurance then?

Bad Drivers Aren’t Tolerated in Oklahoma City

Written by Todd Clay. Posted in Research Last Updated: 06/19/2013

If you drive like you are the only one on the road, you are not going to like Oklahoma City.

oklahoma city car insurance

Don’t be the bad driver that stands out in the crowd breaking the law or you will find yourself with no driver’s license in Oklahoma City.

Not only is driving without insurance not tolerated in Oklahoma City, or anywhere in Oklahoma for that matter, but neither is bad driving. Bad driving can lead immediately to your license being taken away, in addition to whatever other fines and penalties you face.

And even though the State of Oklahoma is who makes the insurance laws, Oklahoma City still has the authority to enforce them. And uninsured drivers in Oklahoma City are treated no different than other bad drivers.

Automatic License Suspensions in Oklahoma City

In Oklahoma City, good drivers that obey the law and don’t use their vehicles in criminal acts can feel safe knowing that the city cracks down on those that do. Instead of allowing a bad or criminal driver continue to put the rest of the drivers on the road in Oklahoma City in danger, the city just automatically revokes their license once they are convicted of any of the following:

  • Manslaughter or homicide with a motor vehicle
  • DUI/DWI
  • Committing a felony with the aid of a vehicle
  • Failing to stop and help a person injured in a car accident
  • Committing perjury or making a false statement in regards to the ownership or use of a vehicle
  • “A misdemeanor or felony conviction for unlawfully possessing, distributing, dispensing, manufacturing, trafficking, cultivating, selling, transferring, attempting or conspiring to possess, distribute, dispense, manufacture, traffic, sell, or transfer of a controlled dangerous substance as defined in the Uniform Controlled Dangerous Substances Act while using a motor vehicle”
  • Pumping gas and leaving without paying
  • Reckless driving
  • Not obeying a traffic device and causing a car accident that seriously injures or kills someone
  • Not stopping for a school bus that is loading or unloading kids

There are more ways to get your license revoked than what is listed above, but these are the main acts that are committed that lead to it.

No Car Insurance Penalties in Oklahoma City

Another way to get your license revoked in Oklahoma City is to drive around without the required car insurance coverage. In addition to the license being revoked, an uninsured driver will also face a fine of up to $250 and possibly 30 days in jail.

To make sure you don’t end up on the bad side of the law make sure that you have no less than $25,000 in property damage liability coverage, $25,000 for bodily injury liability coverage for one person, and $50,000 in bodily liability injury coverage for two or more people. All three of these coverages pay for any damage you do to another person or their property with your vehicle. The coverages do not pay for any damage to your vehicle or for any medical bills you may end up with, those car insurance coverages is extra/

Even if you do have the insurance coverage, make sure that you have your proof of insurance with you. Failing to provide verification of your Oklahoma City car insurance can still lead to the same fines and penalties of not having the coverage at all.

Don’t Be Reckless in Portland

Written by Michele Wilmonen. Posted in Research Last Updated: 06/15/2013

Being Reckless in Portland Includes Minor Traffic Infractions and Driving Without Insurance.

portland car insurance

Keeping your driving in Portland as calm as the Columbia River is in this picture will keep you from getting a reckless driving ticket.

Bad driving, driving under the influence, and driving without insurance are all ways to drive recklessly. But in Portland there are so many easier ways to find yourself with a reckless driving ticket, ways that you may not have even realized.

Reckless Driving Law in Portland

Many of us think of reckless driving as whenever someone is swerving all over the place, having a road rage fit, or just basically doing anything that is getting them dangerously close to causing a car accident. In Portland, yes, acting this way will get you a reckless driving ticket by the police.

But, you can also get a reckless driving ticket for committing any two of the following seemingly innocent traffic infractions:

  • Failing to signal
  • Speeding in a urban area
  • Stopping or slowing down illegally
  • Backing up your car illegally
  • Illegal lane change
  • Passing a vehicle on either the left or right unsafely
  • Tailgating
  • Passing in a no passing zone

Reckless driving in Portland is treated as a Class A Misdemeanor.

Driving Safer by Having Portland Car Insurance

Just having Portland car insurance doesn’t automatically make you a safer driver behind the wheel, but is does make you a safe driver for having it. It also makes you a driver that is driving legally, since both Portland and the State of Oregon have deemed insurance a mandatory part of driving.

The minimum requirements that have been set forth by the State of Oregon, and enforced by every level of law enforcement in the state include:

  • $15,000 in pip coverage
  • $25,000 in liability coverage for injuries to a single person, and $50,000 in coverage total for injuries to two or more people
  • $20,000 in liability coverage for damage done to another person’s property
  • $25,000 per person in uninsured motorist coverage and $50,000 for per crash

Penalties for Driving Reckless Without Portland Car Insurance

While having insurance doesn’t make you a safer driving behind the wheel, it does make you a reckless driver for not having it. For not having Portland car insurance you will face fines, could have your vehicle towed away on the spot, and could also have your driver’s license suspended.

Furthermore, you can also face the possibility of having to carry SR-22 insurance on your Portland car insurance for the next three years. SR-22 insurance is a “proof of future responsibility” coverage that is added to the price of your basic Portland car insurance, so you will now be paying even more for the insurance that you were trying to get out of paying earlier.

Milwaukee Believes in its Drivers Being Quiet and Being Insured

Written by Michele Wilmonen. Posted in Research Last Updated: 06/14/2013

In Milwaukee, making noise and failing to carry proof of insurance are two big no-noes.

Milwaukee car insurance

The proud, but quiet, flag of Milwaukee.

The only thing that I knew about Milwaukee before I started researching their traffic and car insurance laws was baseball and brews. Oh, and Laverne and Shirley lived there.

And while the insurance laws I found are pretty typical of everywhere else around the nation, I was impressed by the vehicle noise laws.

Quiet, Please in Milwaukee

Going through the Milwaukee traffic laws was very interesting. While I am sure other large cities have similar laws, this is the first time I have seen actual penalties and restrictions on the books for noisy cars.

Straight from the Milwaukee traffic laws is the first law for noisy car horns:

“If an automobile horn, as provided for by s. 347.38, Wis. Stats., malfunctions on public or private property within the limits of the city and emits an audible continuous sound for more than 3 minutes, and if the operator or owner of the vehicle cannot be located after a reasonable attempt to find said operator or owner, the malfunctioning horn shall be deemed a nuisance, and the police department shall summarily abate the nuisance by any reasonable means.”

The second noisy car law that follows soon after the first one:

“PROHIBITED. No person shall make unnecessary and annoying noises with a motor vehicle, by squealing tires, excessive acceleration of engine, by emitting unnecessary and loud muffler noises, or by suffering or permitting his or her unattended motor vehicle’s audio alarm to be activated without evidence of any tampering with the doors, locks, windows or any other part of the motor vehicle.”

These are just two of the noise laws in Milwaukee, both of which carry penalties and fines for breaking them, including possible jail time.

Milwaukee Car Insurance

Milwaukee car insurance requirements are determined by the state of Wisconsin. In fact, Wisconsin decides the insurance requirements for everybody in the state just to keep things simple and the same across the board.

So if your vehicle is registered in the state you are required to carry no less than $10,000 in Milwaukee car insurance coverage for any damage that you may do to another person’s property with your vehicle. This coverage is called property damage liability coverage.

You are also required to carry coverage to pay for any medical expenses related to a car accident that you cause. This coverage is only for people that were not in your vehicle at the time of the accident. This particular Milwaukee car insurance coverage is called bodily injury liability coverage, and you can have no less than $25,000 in coverage for a single person injured and $50,000 in total coverage with this coverage to be able to legally drive in Wisconsin.

So travel safe and travel quietly and you will be just fine in Milwaukee.
