Earned USAA Insurance Coverage
This is a very personal USAA Insurance commercial of where some families earned the right to be USAA members.
Commercial
This USAA Insurance commercial opens with two adorable kids telling us where they became eligible for USAA. With each scene change we see a new person or family telling us where they earned their USAA eligibility.
Kids: Ours was earned in Djibouti, Africa 2004.
Middle-aged woman: The Battle of Bataan 1942.
Three sisters sitting on their front porch: Fort Benning, Georgia 1999.
Announcer: USAA Auto Insurance is often handed down from generation to generation, because it offers a superior level of protection and because USAA’s commitment to serve the military, veterans, and their families is without equal. Begin your legacy, get an auto insurance quote. USAA, we know what it means to serve.
Point of the USAA Insurance Commercial
USAA Insurance is only for military and their dependents, a lot of people may find that this is not fair when they mistakenly contact USAA for an insurance quote. This commercial offers a justification to people that may not understand why USAA only serves the military and their families. That it is not just an exclusive club that you can pay your way into, but that it was earned through military service and even possibly with the life of a military member.
It is also shows the wide span of different generations of military that USAA offers coverage for.
What USAA Insurance Wants You to Do
I am sure USAA would like those that don’t qualify for USAA coverage, because they were not in the military or have immediate family in the military, to understand what those that do qualify had to do. USAA is also reaching out to those with connections to the military or immediate family in the military that may not have known that they may qualify for coverage through USAA.
My Opinion of the USAA Insurance Commercial
I know that most of the USAA commercials talk about eligibility and the coverage being generational, but this commercial has a different feel. Instead of just talking about those that are eligible, it shows how and why they are eligible.
I like this new approach that USAA Insurance took with their commercials. We didn’t just have to see pictures of people in uniform, but we got to hear where they were in the military. From my own experience with USAA, so far I like the commercial better than the experience I have had trying to qualify for USAA so far.
I give this USAA Insurance two thumbs up.

I don’t like the commercial for two reasons: First, because it represents the unbridled growth of USAA from a credit union whose success was built on an elite membership of military officers and enlisted to just another bank that virtually anyone can join. Second, from a military eye, the representation of the military members is fraught with uniform errors… Which ties in my first point – apparently they couldn’t find anyone at USAA who had been in the military. They’re all Harvard MBA grads… Which explains a lot.

I’m a USAA member and I was confused by the claim one young lady gave when she said she “earned” her membership when the Apollo space capsule went around the moon for the first time. Assuming she is a relative of one of the astronauts, she “earned” the membership the day that relative joined the service, not in recognition for any particular effort. There are a number of similar references that make no sense.

They first kid is hardly understandable and it ruins the rest of the commercial because you have no idea what they are talking about. Horrible commercial. Hope they stop playing it.
