Tampa car insurance is a necessary, but small, evil if you want to drive.

Tampa car insurance requirements are a day at the beach compared to what is required in other states.

Everyone complains about having to have Tampa car insurance to be able to drive in the State of Florida. But honestly, compared to what some other states require for insurance coverage, Tampa car insurance requires hardly anything.

Besides, you will find that it is just cheaper for you to pay for the Tampa car insurance you are required to have rather than be caught without it.

What Does Tampa Car Insurance Coverage Consist Of?

The State of Florida determines the amount of insurance coverage needed for drivers all over the state, including for your Tampa car insurance. Tampa car insurance actually only requires two coverages for you to be able to drive. These coverages are the property damage liability coverage and the personal injury protection.

Both of the required coverages have a $10,000 minimum limit to them.

Property damage liability coverage pays for damages that you do to another person’s property with your vehicle. Personal injury protection pays for your medical expenses, regardless of who is at fault for the accident.

And these two coverages are minimal compared to what other states require. There are states that require that their drivers carry liability coverage for property damage, bodily injury, uninsured motorist and more just to be able to drive. That is almost a full policy that they are required to have, so again, the two coverages that you are required to have for your Tampa car insurance is actually quite small.

The minimum amount of $10,000 is also a very low amount for liability coverage. There are states out there that require their drivers to carry up to 6 times that amount; which actually puts the drivers in those other states in a better position than you, because their insurance company will be able to cover more of the expenses if they cause an accident.

The $10,000 that is required for Tampa car insurance may leave you paying for another person’s damage out of your own pocket if the damage is higher than that.

What Happens If You Get Caught With No Tampa Car Insurance?

If you get caught driving without car insurance you will get a $103.00 fine and your license will be suspended. If you actually have insurance at the time you were required to show it to the authorities, but you did not have the proof of insurance on you then the $103.00 will be waived. However, you will still have to pay a $10.00 dismissal fee.

So always keep proof of your Tampa car insurance coverage with you when you are driving.
