Farm Bureau Customer Reviews
Farm Bureau Insurance is a collection of insurance companies incorporated in multiple states under the umbrella of the American Farm Bureau. The Bureau was founded in 1919 as lobby for farmers across the U.S. The Amercian Farm Bureau touts itself as the ‘voice of agriculture.’
Each state has it’s own Farm Bureau Insurance – I don’t know if that includes all 50 states. For instance, in Florida, Florida Farm Bureau Insurance sells Farm Bureau insurance products. Farm Bureau Louisiana is probably the best insurance that I could ask for where I live, which is in a rural place. Its a down to earth kind of place that really feels like they know their customers. They are not the biggest of companies, they have the small town feel but they do a great job. Their insurance rates are pretty solid, when you get the contract to start, its fairly easy to understand what you are paying for. I have used them ever since I got my license and first vehicle and I have never had a problem when I needed to make a claim or two. Two claims are what I have used and they were both fairly easy and straight forward. I busted my wind shield when a crack on my window grew, which was frustrating but the claim and the new windshield came and went just like that in less than a week. The second claim was a dent on the door when a deer literally ran into my truck. That seemed like it would of taken longer and been a real head ache, but it was over with and handled sooner than later. Overall they are just solid at what they do. The only negative, and its nots even a negative really, is that I wish they did have more offices in the state mainly closer to me. Besides that though, I am not sure there is really too much to complain about. They have always been good and easy to me when it comes to understanding car insurance.

I am mostly please with this auto insurance, they are the cheapest insurance around this area, and I was able to bundle my auto and home insurance to receive a nice discount. My main gripe is that they did not have a 24 hour phone service when I hit a deer with my car a few years ago. It was the first auto accident I have ever been in and I was not sure what to do. My car was very damage and not drive able, and I was a few miles outside of the nearest town. Luckily a fellow motorist saw me hit the deer and stopped to ask if I was OK and told me I should call 911 (which I never would have thought of since I wasn’t injured or anything). However, once I got the claim going it was a very painless process. They told me the paperwork needed to get the claim started, reimbursed me for a rental car for a week while I shopped for a new car, and also paid for the quite costly towing bill. The claim was quickly approved, I was notified the car was to be totaled and I would get a check for the cost of it. It was a very competitive cost they paid me (I was expecting much less than what I got), and I received the check very quickly so that I could use it towards my new card. Overall, I would rate them 4.5/5, mainly due to the lack of 24 hour phone service

Farm Bureau helped me with the car insurance process. I hadn’t owned a car in many years, let lone a brand new one, and I needed help. They told me if I drove less than 7k miles a year (I work from home, so I do this) that I could get a discount on my monthly insurance. They told me all the benefits and explained the deductible policy to me. After a few months, I had an issue with my credit card I pay with. They called me and told me that my payment did not go through. I told them that is because I paid it with ANOTHER card a week before (because I didn’t want it going on that other maxed out card). They had been great up to this point – but after the one payment went awry that was their fault they made me get on an every 3 month payment plan. I asked them if there was any way to add a different credit card and go back to monthly payments but they wouldn’t allow it. I didn’t change companies because I can’t afford to. They are the cheapest company I found – especially when combining home/auto insurance. While the every 3 month payment is a pain to remember/pay in a larger chunk, I will continue to use Farm Bureau. I mostly like them because they support farmers, which is very important to me. My experience has been mostly positive, minus the payment issue to date.|

They are a local company and have always been around and in the area where I live. They are also all across the state but have the feel of a mom and pops place. They have seemed to always be our insurance providers. My dad introduced me to them when I was younger. They have always done a great job and been really personable and other people around me including family. They are just solid and do what they promise. They are just polite and everything else is just gravy on top to me. They explain rates and policies very well, and make everything about that really simple. I would love to stay with them for a long time and right now that is the plan. They treat everyone in a very personable way and I do not think you get that everywhere to be honest.

From getting my driver’s licence to purchasing a car, Farm Bureau is the car insurance agency I went with. Without knowing it when I was placed on my parent’s car insurance, their rate dropped over $30 after one year of safe driving. That type of policy made me feel acknowledged as a teenager. Throughout my journey in car ownership life, I find their customer service unexpected. Farm Bureau took the time to answer any questions I had about payments and other issues.
Past payments were late at one time. I called the agency and was able to workout a plan within an hour. Last year, I walked to my car in a mall parking lot and saw both sides scratched. My policy wouldn’t pay for the full repairs unless I paid $500 upfront. That keep me from calling in a claim until two months later. By chance, I was talking with a claims specialist at the local office. She had told me I only needed to met the payment by $200. I explained the situation to her and she outlined what I needed to do for the claim to be approved. Customer service is the first thing I look for in any company I deal with.
The experience I had as a teen and adult have made me recommend this insurance agency to friends and family. Money is so important to the top insurance agencies. But, Farm Bureau knows that a small bit of human interaction makes the difference when I have a good or bad day.

I had liability on my car with FB for over 32 years without an accident. I paid $225 for 6 months. Suddenly my insurance was increased to $169 per month.
They offer a 15% discount if you have your house insurance with them as well. To overcome this, they call the insurance company by a different name.

Farm bureau is the worst. I read one review that talked about an agent named Jeff and I knew exactly who they were talking about. We have had FB insurance for about 15 years and just got a letter that stated if we didn’t drop our daughter off the policy they were going to cancel everything. She had never had a claim or a ticket so what is the problem. FB only pays claims that they want to and some of the people are just plain old bullies. Good bye FB and hello new insurance.

I had Farm Bureau for 2 years…that was enough. Prices kept going up,
customer service was just OK. Canceled me because we were on auto pay and they added a $6 charge that was not included in auto pay. To reinstate or now open a new policy it was going to be more money yearly?????
WHAT…Really??? Good Bye Farm Bureau! We had NO claims only payments and increases.

I had FB for my car insurance co. for close to 15 years. I was never in an accident and I haven’t had any tickets (except maybe parking) since around 1998. Still, my premium went up and up and up until it was $160. They said there was nothing they could do. I went to Geico and have been paying $95-$100 for the past 5 years. That’s nearly $3600. Crazy when you think about it.

If you are considered Farm Bureau, DON’T!!! My Mother has had a policy with them for 40 years and was notified today that she would either have to exempt me from her policy because they do not believe her that we do not live together (even though we can provide thorough documentation that we dont) or they are going to drop her. Let me reiterate that she has been with them for 40 years and they would just drop her. I guess customer loyalty means absolutely nothing to them. Some jerk agent named Jeff was giving my Mom, who is way too nice for her own good, the run around so I had to get on the phone and I still could not get any straight answers. Go anywhere and I mean anywhere but Farm Bureau!!!

I have had insurance with Nationwide, Allstate, and State farm over the years because I was in the Army and it was more convenient dealing with one of their local offices since Farm Bureau was in North Carolina. I found that after having insurance with the other companies that Farm Bureau was by far the least expensive and the benifits outweighed any of the other insurance companies.
Farm Bureau is like a family owned business. The customer service is excellent. No matter what office you go in the atmosphere is enjoyable. Claims are inspected and paid extremely fast. They seem to have services available to you to have your vehicle repaird quickly.
I have had 2 claims recently. One was a deer accident. The adjuster actually met me at the accident scene and my vehicle was taken to a garage they use alot and repairs started that same day. Checks were written and paid by Farm Bureau on the spot. No money out of my pocket.
The second claim was a wreck where a driver pulled out infront of me totalling my car. The wreck was near 8:00am, by 1:00pm the adjuster had checked the car and determined it was totalled. He met with me at 3:00pm and wrote me a check for the high end amount of the Kelly Blue Book value of the car. I would definately recommend anyone in North Carolina to look into Farm Bureau Insurance Company.

When I was in an accident with an employee of a local business, the owner tried to get out of paying for my repair. Farm Bureau paid for my repairs, and then went after the other company to get reimbursed. This is a company that looks out for its customers.

I have been with FB for over 20 years, but I canceled my auto policy effective TODAY. I owned a house that was foreclosed on and FB refused to write a renters ins policy (after they told me it would not be a problem.) I obtained renters ins. through Shelter, but retained my auto policy with FB. Every year since I have seen large increases ($30 to $40) annually in my auto policy premium. They do check credit reports when renewal comes up, but my credit score has increased every year since the foreclosure— 3 years. I have had no claims in the past 7 years. Prior claims were for a couple of windshield replacements and one accident (insured with FB too- but it was her fault.) When I had my house FB canceled my policy several times because the geniuses at BOA would tell them I did not live there. One of the times they canceled was right after the agent came out to look over the property (something they do every couple of years.) Obviously, I lived there!!! The agent and I would have to move mountains to get the policy reinstated. I worked for a competitor’s claims office and I was always amazed at the answers FB would give for simple coverage questions. They act like you are bugging them if you go in to pay your premium. Well- you live and learn. No more good ole’ boys of FB– I will never go back!

I have had the same insurance since turning 16, and it is the same insurance that my mother has used since we moved to Tennessee when I was 7.
Every time we have had a claim, from a rock busting my windshield, to someone breaking into my car and breaking out the window, to my sister totaling my mother’s car, they have been quick, professional, and courteous. They handle each claim quickly. I have never had to jump through hoops to file a claim. I normally only have to talk to one or two people to get a claim finished. If there is any type of problem, they always call me. My claims have always gotten processed quickly as well, not lasting days or even weeks like some other insurance companies.
I had a teenager pull out in front of me once, and it took his insurnace company over a month to process everything, and over a month to get my car fixed.
I like my auto insurance company so much that I also have my home owners and life insurance polices with them. They are a fantastic company. On top of all of this, they are extremely affordable. They have the lowest rates in my area.

I’ve had farm bureau for years on several cars and was happy with them until they began steering customers to one of their direct repair shops . It seems like I’m not the body shop’s customer but the insurance company is. I would rather the person fixing my car work for me and not for the company they give concessions to so they will get the job. I’m looking for another insurance company now that doesn’t steer.

Just another company who wants your money, but could care less about you. I have had my coverage with them for many years. An agent wrote a policy on my leased car that did not include the proper coverage and I did not discover it until my lease company sent me a bill for improper coverage. Farm Bureau could have cared less, and told me it was my fault for renewing the policy without noticing the wrong coverage. Now they are threaten collections if I do not pay extra for cancelling my policy with them. Their agents are very unprofessional as the customer service is also. This would be the last company I would recommend to anyone.

|To date, I’ve had only positive experiences with my car insurance company. They are always very prompt in mailing new insurance cards. Also, if I should need a card immediately for done reason, they have an office located less than two miles from my house. The location also makes it easy for me to go in and ask my agent any questions I may have in person.
The service I receive when I visit the office has been top notch. They receptionist gets me coffee and I rarely have to wait. I also got a substantial discount by keeping my renter’s insurance policy with Farm Bureau, saving me more than the renter’s policy actually costs.
As far as my insurance rates, my agent has always kept my interests at the forefront, never trying to sell me more coverage than I need and looks for every possible discount to save me money. She even pointed out to me that my work place offers free defensive driver courses so I could save a little more. They also offer a monthly payment plan with automatic deduction from my checking account, giving me one less bill to keep track of.
I was involved in an accident a couple years ago that was not my fault. Though the damages were minimal and it wouldn’t have cost the insurance company a thing, they investigated and made sure the person who hit me couldn’t try to blame me for the accident., They documented everything and made sure I had no cause to worry that I’d have to pay out of pocket. Also, when I was younger and was on my parent’s policy, they were very understanding and had no problem breaking down things I didn’t understand.
My company also gives me a wide array of discounts on various other services. I save 15% on my cell phone bill, never pay full price for a hotel room, and get discounted oil changes through my insurance company. These extra savings are substantial and they really add up. I would estimate my monthly savings to be upwards of $100, which if the monthly cost to uphold my policy.

My move to Farm Bureau was precipitated by my decision to downsize from a large home to a mobile home in the country. My previous insurer had stopped insuring mobile homes, so I had to change carriers for my homeowner’s insurance.
Once that was done, it made good financial sense to also change my auto coverage to Farm Bureau in order to have their multi-line discount available to me.
I’ve had coverage with Farm Bureau for almost 2 years and have nothing but positive experience to report. They’re a great choice for people who live outside of large metropolitan areas.

When it comes down to auto insurance, I want to make sure I am covered by a company that is reliable, and my experience has been excellent with Farm Bureau. I have been with them for the last 13 years, always have had full coverage on all the vehicles I have ever owned, and I have always been treated fairly.
I have had a few wrecks, and some have been my fault and others have not, yet each time, I was treated very well. T
hrough out the years I have been paying three months at a time, I decided to find out if I could just pay monthly because I feel it would be much easier with my pay schedule, all I had to do was go to my local office and they changed it with out any problems, made it easy with a bank draft, let me pick the date that it would be ran, and even lowered the cost from what I had been paying quarterly. A
s I said before I had a few wrecks, some have been my fault and other have not, any time my vehicle had been totaled they would go above and beyond and no only compensate me for my vehicle, but look to see what the average price for the purchase of a used vehicle similar to mine to compensate me, than just go by the blue book value. When I’ve had accidents that were not my fault, they went up to bat for me, got me compensated for any vehicle damage, and paid for me to use a rental until my vehicle was fixed. I never felt that i was out searching for a ride at any point.
I feel the monthly cost of my insurance is fair, I have done a bit of search and found they aren’t exactly the cheapest, but if I am paying a bit more for reliable insurance, I’m completely fine with it. I feel at times my deductible may be a bit more than what I would like but that is something that is flexible, if a pay a bit more per month then I could get it lowered, I’m glad that option is available for me.
The customer service has been fantastic, and my local agent has always been nice and very knowledgeable, which gives me a peace of mind. Also for 25 dollars a year I get membership benefits from them as well which include discounts on hotels, prescription drug programs, and discounts at different retailers. Overall I am very impressed with Farm Bureau and am a very satisfied customer.

Farm Bureau’s rates are very reasonable, but you must pay membership dues each year in order to keep the insurance.
They are around $35. The membership does have some good benefits like hotel and rental car discounts and a percentage off eyeglasses. I used the hotel discount last year for vacation, and it saved me a significant amount, it just depends on the hotel.
The insurance itself is great. We have had a few claims (deer accident, fender bender in the driveway), and all were settled within a week from the date of the accident. We make one phone call to the customer service representative, they collect all the information, and instruct you about sending in photos. There are no adjusters coming to the house to take pictures, you just email some photos and they handle it from there. A few days later they call to update you on the case, and will tell you when to expect a check for damages. The settlement amounts have always been fair.
My teenage son had an accident last year, and we expected our rates to skyrocket since it was his fault. Farm Bureau told us that the first accident will not raise your rates. The downfall to that is, that if any of us on the policy get in an accident or get a ticket within the next two years, we not only get a rate increase for the current incident, but for the first one also. You think that things are okay, but if you are not careful, and have another incident, you could be looking at a very large rate increase that you cannot afford.
An agent came to our home last year (we had an appointment to discuss our policies and options) and suggested we get renters insurance, and told us that we would get a discount on auto insurance for adding it. We did, and true to his word, we are actually paying less for the combined policy than for the auto insurance alone…weird but true!
Farm Bureau does have a habit of raising rates at each renewal, but I guess that’s common for most companies and businesses. The increases are relatively small, and they are still competitive on their rates. I have gone online to get insurance estimates, but cannot find one cheaper than what we pay now. The paper statements are very clear and easy to understand. They break down how much it costs for each part of the insurance for each vehicle.
I wish the website was more functional for getting policy information and paying bills. It never seems to be updated, so I just send a check in the mail instead. I am paying way less with Farm Bureau than with any other insurance company I used in the past, even including the membership dues. All in all, I would highly recommend Farm Bureau to anyone looking for a low-cost, easy to deal with company.|

I have been a customer of the South Carolina Farm Bureau Insurance company for over eight years now. The first few agents that I had were exceptional and the customer service was great.
One time I forgot to send in the check for my insurance payment and it was inadvertently canceled. I got on the phone with my agent and right away he had it fixed for me.
Another time a woman backed into my car at the bank drive-thru and I required insurance to cover the damages. I had absolutely no issues regarding towing, repairs, or rental car. They absolutely took care of all of my needs. Unfortunately the office closest to my home had some changes that occurred in their staff. My original agent stopped selling insurance and his replacement moved to another part of the state. My account was then taken over by an agent that is terrible.
The mistakes that he has made regarding my auto insurance have been costly, embarrassing, and downright annoying. For instance, I paid my dues online, as SC Farm Bureau Insurance allows that option now, which I absolutely love. Instead of verifying this information, my agent turned in paperwork to the DMV stating that my insurance had lapsed.
This was during the summer and my family and I were on vacation for 6 weeks. A relative that was housesitting for us at the time informed me that the police had come to my residence requesting the license plate from my vehicle, as I had no car insurance for 2 months according to the DMV. Flabbergasted and panicked, I called my insurance agent on the phone. He stated that everything looked fine on his computer screen and there was no reason why I should be receiving a visit from the police department. I asked him if he had turned in the paperwork stating I was without car insurance and he vehemently denied doing so. I hung up the phone with him and called the DMV.
They had an entirely different story and stated that yes, my insurance agent had handed this paperwork in. Luckily I was able to take care of this issue albeit on my vacation.
Flash forward three months and I went to pay the taxes on my vehicle. Instead of handing me new stickers like they do every year, I was told that I had to go to the DMV to receive them. When I got to the DMV, the woman working there informed me that I had a fine to pay, $5 for every day I was uninsured. I tried calling my agent via cell phone and left him an urgent message. This error was his doing and I did not want to pay that hefty fine when in fact I had insurance the entire time
However, he did not end up calling me back until the following week, as he had left early Friday and was off for an extended weekend for the Labor Day holiday. I had no choice but to pay the fine so I could have the appropriate sticker on my vehicle, preventing another fine.
All in all I have to say that Farm Bureau Auto Insurance is great. It is much cheaper than any of the competitors and they offer great coverage. However, depending upon who your agent is, you might end up having an experience as awful as mine.

I called him to ask why ? i dunno…. totally fed up. Called this past week and got a real great answer. He said i’m losing out on 10% discount on autos. I ask what can i do to get additional discount. he does not know and if I find out to let him know.greaaaat agent!!!!!! I think not.
Asked about credit score used by FB can t answer questions. Definitely time to switch to new agent or company . not impressed at all. if you ask why wait four years? Simple , cant find company to write out in the sticks have tried numerous times.

Farm Bureau is excellent in providing car insurance. They offer so many options, have local offices, and are eager to give discounts for multiple policies-the more you insure the cheaper it becomes to insure everything.
Recently after my husband totaled our car I was worried about how much hassle would be involved. I can say none at all, we filed online over the weekend, was contacted by a claims specialst Monday and had a check deposited in a week. Everyone was friendly; the people on the phone, the office personnel, even the guys they had pick up the car. I was reminded why we chose them in the first place.
After a woman ran a light and struck us we dealt with her insurance, Farm Bureau, and I was very impressed at how smoothly and pleasent the whole experiencs was. It is just a great company with nice people, low prices and I completely recommend Farm Bureau to anyone.

They have been a great company to work with. I have been a customer for over 8 years now and luckily I have never had to file a claim. My representative looks over my policy every year and looks for ways to save money. She makes recommendations for us to save money or the benefits of increased coverage. The best part of this is she does this automatically with out us asking her.
Even when our agent is out of the office or on vacation the other agents in the office try to help us out. They never try to up sell us or try to get us to change coverage. Its nice being able to call a company and not feel like you are going to be pressured to buy something more than what you intended to buy.
I’ve had many insurance companies but Farm bureau by farm provides something the others didn’t, personalized customer service and great prices too!!!

My policy was taken care of in the Margate, FL branch. I have never seen such a poorly run office. However, my husband is very attached to this company as he has used them for years and their price was lower than my company so when we married I switched to them. Their first big mistake was when I added my daughter”s new car to our policy. I called and obtained a list of all the needed information that they requested and faxed it to them and then called back to be sure they had received everything and that everything was in order. I few weeks later I called about something else and came to find out that her new car had never been added to our policy. If she had been in an accident she would not have been covered. A number of smaller incidents occurred where I would call and make changes and then find out that they were not made or faxes not received as we had 3 teenagers on the policy so we had a number of changes.
However, it gets worse. When my husband and I separated the first thing he did was to call his insurance and give them my new address and explain that we were still married but living in a different home temporarily. He was told by representatives in the office that it was not a problem and he gave them my new address. I month or two later I backed into a car and the repair cost $800 dollars. After discussing this with my husband and agent we decided to put the claim in because of their forgiveness policy for low claims. Then a few months down the road my husband contacted them again due to another problem with them not getting the changes to our policy correct when I had made changes to the policy taking my daughter off the policy because she was no longer living in my home. He was then told that I absolutely could not be on the policy any longer because we were not in the same home. I received a letter stating that I had to obtain new insurance immediately. They were willing to insure me but at a much higher rate because I was not a policy holder but only listed as a dependent. I never once realized that I was not a policy holder. Since I was the main contact person with them and had been the one to submit everything for a number of years I wonder why it was not brought to my attention that I was not a policy holder and should not have been the one making the changes? They were willing to write me a policy but at a much higher rate because now they considered me to be a risk due to the accident. Prior I had no accidents and a clean record my entire driving career (22 years and excellent credit history). When I went looking for insurance I found that I was now in a much higher bracket for the next 5 years. The error made by the Margate office will be costing me between 3,000-5,000 dollars. It does not matter what rating a company has if those handing our policy do not know what they are doing. When I changed to Progressive they added my husband as a driver to my car using our home – the address of my husband- as his garage. I was told that it was cheaper to remain as married on the policy and living at a separate address was no problem at all.
