Vermont Mutual Insurance Group was founded in the state of Vermont, in the year 1828. It was the first insurance company in that state, and started as a fire insurance company.
Vermont Mutual only writes insurance in the New England states and New York State. They claim to have over 400 independent insurance agents writing their products for their 250,000 policy holders.

we have to say, that Vermont Mutual Insurance Company home insurance claim process and estimates are disappointing. Estimates are unprofessional and most covered by policy been declined. Expenses Payments are never on time and accumulated large amounts of balance due/past due. and more disappointment… We preferred to be anonymous.

I am very pleased with the auto coverage we have with Vermont Mutual. We have a local agent, but I have spoken to a rep there many times after an accident we had last winter. It was considered a “no-fault” accident because of the slippery snow conditions that day, and even with snow tires and driving slowly, I started sliding on the snow and hit a parked car on the side of the road. Thankfully no one was injured. An adjuster showed up the very next morning to see the car and talk to me. The processed the claim right away, taking care of everything, even recommending auto body shops in the area that they knew did excellent work. We were really pleased at how this turned out – it could have been disastrous, and us without the car for a long time, but they took care of everything. They even called after we had the car back for a week, just to make sure it was driving well and there were no issues. I had anticipated that our insurance rates would go through the roof because of this accident, but surprisingly, they didn’t.
In addition, a few months ago our youngest child got his learner’s permit. I called to inquire about adding him to our policy and what the rates would be for that. The rates were very reasonable, and he was eligible for a good student discount as well. The process was very easy, and we received paperwork in the mail 2 days later, which was just what he needed to bring to his driver education class. We have been really pleased with how quickly and expeditiously they take care of everything.

I have nothing but great things to say about Vermont Mutual. They have been insuring our vehicles for over 30 years, and we have never had problems or issues with them.
We have had to file 3 claims with them over the years, and each time, an adjuster came right out, within 24 hours, and sometimes on the same day. We were given our choice of body shops, and we always were paid for any claim within a week or so.
One time after receiving our car back from the body shop, we realized this car was having steering issues, which had not been noticed before the claim was filed. Vermont Mutual came right out again, and we had the car fixed at the dealership, and Vermont Mutual paid us again for this, right away.
My husband has a contracting business, and they have been great in covering and insuring his vehicles and heavy equipment. We knew there were special insurance issues for those vehicles, and for his plowing/sanding vehicles in the winter. They very carefully explained all of our option to us, and what we needed to protect our interests, as well as my husband’s customers. Luckily, we have never had any need to file a claim, nor have his customers, but it feels good knowing that they have done so well by us, and that we know they would back us if anything was needed.
They also give us great discounts for combining our homeowner’s insurance and boat insurance with them. I cannot stress how highly I recommend Vermont Mutual
